    Meet Dr. Brosnan!

    Last updated 19 hours ago

Dr. Michelle Brosnan is a true New Yorker! She graduated cum laude with a BS in Biology from Fordham University and received her MD from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. She completed her preliminary year of internal medicine at Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Center in Manhattan and then completed her training in Emergency Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.  In her final year of residency, she was given the honor of being chief resident. With 9 years of clinical experience in an emergency room setting, she is perfect for CityMD!

When Dr. Brosnan isn’t working with us here she’s on Long Island with her husband and 2 Boston Terriers. However, their family is about to get bigger, with their first baby due in the summer!

Having completed four half marathons, running is a passion of hers (when she’s not pregnant of course). Michelle has even raised nearly $10,000 with her sister for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society while running for them. The contests don’t stop there though. Michelle won a greeting card competition with Hallmark, and now has her own card featuring her mother’s dog. Dr. Brosnan even made an appearance on Wheel of Fortune 4 years ago.

As an adventurous an active person, Dr. Brosnan is open to trying any new cuisine once, loves to travel to the Caribbean, and dives into books like The Hunger Games. Next time you see her; ask her about her time volunteering for the French bulldog Rescue Network!

Is It Possible to Overprotect Your Children from Germs?

    Last updated 8 days ago

As a parent, you probably strive to create a healthy environment for your kids, but you could be doing more harm than good if you are overzealous with your use of antibacterial products. A common misconception about bacteria and other germs that we hear from patients at our urgent care facilities is that they are all bad, but the truth is that bacteria are essential organisms for all living things to thrive—including people. When you use antibacterial cleaning agents and body soaps too often, you could be killing the valuable good bacteria that your children need.

    Helping good bacteria survive

An easy way to help your kids stay healthy is by shifting your focus away from killing bad bacteria and toward supporting good bacteria. The “good germs” that could be eliminated with antibiotic products can actually boost the immune system, which will in turn be able to fight off “bad germs” known for causing illness. Here are some ways that you can increase the good bacteria for your child’s immune system:

    • Choose healthy foods: There is an increasing number of foods on the market today containing probiotics, which replenish necessary bacteria in the body. These foods range from yogurt to pickles, and they are often found in kid-friendly packaging.
    • Only use doctor-prescribed antibiotics: When antibiotics will help fight off an illness that your child has, your doctor will recommend them. Otherwise, you should stay away from using antibiotic medicine for your child.
    • Clean using natural products: Your child’s living environment should be clean, but not completely disinfected. Use cleaning products like lemon juice and gentle soaps to keep your house tidy, and don’t go overboard with heavy disinfectants.

For more tips on keeping your child healthy and to get prompt medical care when illnesses do arise, visit CityMD, urgent care in NYC. You can contact us for hours and information about our medical services on our website or at (877) 746-0848.

Dr. Kahoun, one of the skilled physicians at CityMD, is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School and the LIJ Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He completed two years of graduate work in pharmacology while at the UW and a year of research into spinal cord trauma at the Centre Propara in Montpellier, France. (Yes, he speaks French!) He’s certified with the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and a fellow with the American College of Emergency Physicians. He has trained residents at Maimonides Medical Center and at the Long Island College Hospital, and most recently served as Director of Clinical Operations in the ER at St Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, NY. Dr. Kahoun has over 17 years of ER experience!

In addition to his medical prowess, Dr. Kahoun speaks both French and Spanish. He grew up in a small industrial town in central Wisconsin, but later in life enjoyed living in both France and Argentina. Dr. Kahoun was bit by the travel bug and had the opportunity to travel throughout Southern Europe, South America, Morocco, Senegal, India, and Thailand before settling in Brooklyn.

When Dr. Kahoun isn’t providing excellent medical care at CityMD, you can find him perfecting his slam dunk on the basketball court, enjoying a delicious meal or spending time with his wife and 4 year-old son, Mateo.

With services available on a walk-in basis, we can help you get the care and screening you need quickly so that you can get back to work. Below are some of the occupational medicine services that we can offer to you:

    • Department of Transportation physicals: All commercial drivers need to meet health expectations to ensure the safety of everyone on the road. Therefore, a standardized DOT physical is required prior to being issued a license for commercial driving.

    • On-the-job injury treatment: Workplace injuries are complicated because of the insurance and workers’ compensation claims that may be associated with the incident. Specific medical care is required, including return-to-work physicals, which ensure eligibility to continue performing work-related tasks.

    • Hearing and vision screening: In jobs where vision and hearing requirements are in place for employee safety, regular screening is required. These tests can be performed at convenient hours so employees do not have to miss work.

    • Drug/tox screening: CityMD provides pre-employment and post-injury drug screening that is prompt and discreet so that your employees can feel a sense of privacy in the matter. Because we have a lab on-site, the results will be available in the shortest possible time.

    • Physical therapy and rehabilitation: Some workplace injuries can require long-term recovery that includes physical therapy. This type of service is offered through City MD so your employees can get proper care under one facility, which will streamline any insurance claims related to the case.

For more information about the services of CityMD, contact us on our website or call us at (877) 746-0848.
